The Bowen Center Mourns the Passing of Mayor David N. Dinkins
The Board of Directors of the Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center mourn the passing of Mayor David N. Dinkins.
As the first African American Mayor of the City of New York, Mayor Dinkins greatly enhanced mental health services by creating the “Safe Streets, Safe City: Cops and Kids” program, which incorporated mental health best practices, strengthened communities and helped reduce crime.
In 2017, we were honored to present Mayor Dinkins with the Emma L. Bowen Humanitarian Award for his lifetime of service and dedication to the residents of the City of New York, and were equally honored that the Mayor served as an honorary Co-Chairman of our 2020 Humanitarian Awards gala last month.
Mayor Dinkins’ legacy as a trailblazer will endure, but he will be sorely missed.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his loving family.
