Bowen Center Therapeutic Preschool Open Enrollment

Therapeutic Preschool Program
Extends Enrollment

We’re here to help you!

The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center, home to one of New York City’s renowned therapeutic preschools for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties and cognitive and language delays, has extended its enrollment period so that our staff can offer assistance to parents who may be experiencing issues getting their children evaluated for our program.

Located in Harlem, our Therapeutic Preschool Program (TPS) has provided children aged 3-5, year-round education, speech and occupational therapy, physical therapy and mental health services, since 1986.

In order to attend our program, children must have been evaluated, have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) from the school district through the New York City Department of Education’s Committee on Preschool Education, and be enrolled in Medicaid. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we are aware that many parents are having a difficult time getting their children evaluated or even receiving information on how to get their child evaluated.

We are here to help you.

TPS prepares children for entry into public or private school in less restrictive environments, as well as special education programs.

Instruction takes place in small classroom settings. Children meet regularly with individual therapists and parents are encouraged to participate. Teachers assist and advise parents on strategies for toilet training and various parenting techniques.

TPS students receive busing to and from our school, free breakfast, lunch and snacks (all nut free) from a health conscious food service.

Throughout the pandemic, we have instituted numerous protocols to keep our students and staff safe. Some of these protocols include practicing mask wearing with the children, operating on a hybrid schedule, socially distant classrooms, and a daily deep cleaning of all classrooms.

If you believe your child would benefit from our program or know someone who has a child that could, please email us for additional information on enrollment or to schedule a virtual tour – [email protected].
