Therapeutic Preschool
The Bowen Center’s Therapeutic Preschool program (TPS) prepares preschoolers with developmental and emotional challenges for academic success!
Certified special education teachers, psychiatrists, licensed social workers, mental health professionals and certified physical, speech and occupational therapists work with preschool children aged 3-5 with emotional and behavioral difficulties and cognitive and language delays, in smaller classroom settings.
TPS is the only one of a few programs in the City of New York that works primarily with African American/Black and Latino preschoolers with mental health, developmental delays autism and emotional trauma.

Our holistic curriculum addresses sensory, fine motor, sensory motor and gross motor skill training. Students meet regularly with related service providers to review academic milestones with therapeutic goals. Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate.

The primary goal of TPS is to help the children overcome their challenges and prevent the need for additional restrictive levels of educational support. Many TPS students graduate and move on to mainstream or less restrictive educational settings including regular classrooms or hybrid programs which have special and non-special education students in the class.
The Bowen Center’s Therapeutic Preschool is a year-round program that is in session weekdays from 9:00 am to 2:00pm. Students receive breakfast, lunch and a snack daily.
In addition to in-class instruction, classes visit neighboring establishments, take field trips, and participate in special holiday events including a march on Martin Luther King Day, trick-or-treating around the Bowen Center on Halloween, and a Christmas party featuring Santa Claus.
