2025 Bowen Center
Community Health Fair
Health, Wellness & Education

The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center proudly hosted its annual Community Health Fair, welcoming hundreds of attendees across its expanded two locations — Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park and West 135th Street. The day-long event, held on Saturday, September 27th, brought together over 40 community partners, offering a wide range of free health screenings, wellness resources, and family-friendly activities designed to promote health and strengthen community connections.
The Health Fair featured appearances by Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who honored the late Congressman Charles B. Rangel and civil rights icon Dr. Hazel Dukes, and New York City Council Member Shaun Abreu, who paid tribute to Lloyd Williams, President and CEO of the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and founder of Harlem Week, for his decades of leadership and advocacy on behalf of Harlem residents and businesses.
From mental health and addiction recovery resources to nutrition education, support services, tennis clinics, and blood pressure screenings, the Health Fair provided attendees with access to a broad array of essential health information and services. Local organizations, led by our featured health partner Ryan Health, hospitals, and city and state agencies joined forces to share resources addressing physical and mental health, housing, nutrition, and family support.
A great time was had by all, as families enjoyed live entertainment, face and body art painting, carnival games, and carousel rides. The event underscored the Bowen Center’s long-standing commitment to community wellness, prevention, and empowerment. In addition, Sportime, home to one of the city’s premier tennis facilities on Randall’s Island, offered free tennis clinics for children ages 5–12, inspiring young participants to stay active and healthy.
“The Bowen Center has always been about more than treatment — it’s about empowering the whole person and strengthening the entire community,” said Lawrence Fowler, Acting Executive Director of the Bowen Center. “We’re grateful to our partners, volunteers, and elected officials who joined us to make this year’s Health Fair such a success, and we especially thank the team at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park for being such wonderful hosts.”
This year marked the first time the event was held at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park, and the Bowen Center looks forward to returning there for future Health Fairs as it continues its mission to uplift, engage, and serve the Harlem community.
